Aircraft Window Polishing

Aircraft Window Polishing

While using an aircraft, the windows develop scratches and loose chips from sand that comes from the air-flow caused by the engine. This calls for aircraft window polishing.

The defects are inspected in accordance with AMM – after the inspection it is clear if the detail is fixable or needs replacing. Regarding larger defects, the replacement of the windows and advisably the rubber gaskets is needed.

In the case of smaller damages, many aircraft manufacturers have given permission to polish the windows. In accordance with AMM, the depth of the damage is inspected to make sure if polishing is a suitable solution. After the inspection, polishing of scratches and chips is carried out in order to achieve ideal transparency.

After polishing, the thickness is inspected to make sure it is in accordance to the requirements in the directives of the aircraft producer. Polishing is carried out on-wing – removing windows from the aircraft is not needed.

It allows you to save up to 70% compared to the cost of replacing windows. Since the repairs are carried out on-wing, the activities performed do not need a separate certificate.

Why you should consider polishing aircraft windows:

  1. Damages may cause tensions in the material and become a safety hazard
  2. Low transparency of the window causes negative emotions in passengers
  3. A polished surface collects less dirt and stays clean for a longer period of time
  4. Restoring helps save money on buying new details

In case the windows have already been replaced, do not rush with utilising the old windows. We can perform an inspection and possibly polish them in accordance with the CMM manual. In co-operation with our partner, it is possible to request a certificate.

On average, it takes 2 working hours to polish one window. We carry out services in any airport if the needed conditions for polishing are met.

For those who wish to acquire the skill-set needed, we offer training, the needed equipment and materials for performing the tasks.
